Hannah Schoettmer is an award-winning writer/director and documentarian based in Los Angeles. She was a 2024 Southern Exposure Film Fellow, and she is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. Her films have screened at festivals including Wild and Scenic Film Festival, Sidewalk Film Festival, and Better Cities Film Festival, where her short documentary Alabama Roots received the Better Environments Award. Her work examines moral uncertainty within both intimate and communal systems.
As a writer, her work has appeared in journals likeThe Louisville Review, The Indianapolis Review, and DIAGRAM. She’s received support from Brooklyn Poets and was a two-time fellow with the Jane Lang Davis Creation Lab at the Seattle Opera. She published the chapbook Body Panopticon (Bottlecap Press) in 2022.
She is currently writing a novel, polishing a poetry manuscript, and making movies with her friends.
